The need for economy ■was expressed in the following letter from the Public Works Department, rend at a meeting of the Ohinemnri County Council to-day:—" The amount of money available for all votes under the Consolidated Fund is to be considerably reduced this year. All economy is to be effected under this head- The mam authorities affecting ycur county will Ij-e under the headings of authorities for bridge renewals, access to outlying districts. food damage and maintenance, and grants on roads other than main highways. The amount to be provided can in no way be increased, and it is therefore essentia! that the strictest eara should be exercised in seeing that no vote is exceeded nor any liability incurred over and above the amount of authority."
