HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.
TO-DAY'S STREET APPEAL. AID FOR THE NEEDY SICK. The Auckland Hospital Auxiliary will today conduct its annual street appeal to raise funds with which to provide cheer for the needy sick and families who are in stress owing to illness. Mrs. A. Kidd, the president, said it was unfortunate that the auxiliary's appeal and the drive of the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association should be held in the same week. It was unavoidable, however, _as the date of the auxiliary's street collection was allotted by the City Council some months ago and could not be changed. She trusted that all would give, as it was imperative that the auxiliary should bo in a position to carry on its work. To-day's activities will be under the direction of the Mayoress, Mrs. A. 1). Campbell. Members of various women's societies will take part in the effort, and in addition over 80 girls of the Auckland Training College will give their services after four o'clock in the afternoon. During the lunch hour university students will assist.
A number of secondary school girls visited the wards of the hospital yesterday and distributed flowers and other gifts. In the evening Mrs. Wettenhall, convener of the ways and means committee, gave a short broadcast address on the work of the auxiliary from station IYA. A very enjoyable concert, arranged by Mrs. Raeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin, members of the auxiliary, was held at the hospital on Wednesday evening. Items were rendered by Mrs. Dreaver, Miss Dorothy Dreaver, Miss Hoffman, Mrs. Vaughan, Mr. Arthur Wright and Master William Vaughan.
