ORPHANAGE AT WANGANUI.

MARGARET WATT MEMORIAL. 'trust funds available. [Br TBLEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANG AN OT. Wednesday. Trust funds that have been growing for about 40 years are now to be nsed in building the Margaret Watt Memorial Orphanage at Mosstown. The trustees, together with a New Plymouth architect, Mr. Griffiths, will make a choice from the plans submitted by four Wanganni architects. The institqtion is to be built on a hill in the middle of 55 acreij of ground, and will face the Belmont golf links to the north, with a fine plantation on the west. It is anticipated that the initial work al least will be started in the near future. The legacy which makes the orphanage possible was left by the late Mr. Jamcj Watt, of Watt and Taylor. It was the portion of the estate which would have gone to hjs daughter Margaret, who, when a young woman, was drowned at sea. The late Mr. Watt, senr., left it in trust to his son, the late Mr. James Watt, a solicitor, and the trustees of St. Paul's Church, to erect a home for orphans when sufficient capital had accumulated. The trustees consider that that time has now arrived, and have received permission from the Supreme Court to use the trust funds. The land on which the home is to be erected was also left by the late Mr. Watt, senr. The proposal of the trustees is to erect the home in the form of a number of cottages, to accommodate 16 to 20 children each. According to the _ terms of the trust, children of any religious denomination can be admitted, so long as they wera born in the Province of Wellington. It is proposed to work the property as a sma»l training farm for the elder boys.
