BOROUGH OF OPOTIKI.
FLOOD PROTECTION SCHEME. GROUND FOR HIGH SCHOOL. [By TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, 'Wednesday. The Opotiki Borough Council met last evening, Mr. f G. I?. Moody, the Mayor, presiding. The Transport Department wroto in connection with traffic signs stating that owing to lack of support tho signs could not be supplied. A lengthy report on a comprehensive flood protection scheme was submitted by Yickerman and 'Lancaster. Mr. Barrett said something should be done as soon as possible to protect the Otara River bank from erosion. Mr. Short said that owing to the financial position of tho country it would bo better to hold the matter over. The matter was loft in tho hands of tho Works Committee. Tho Opotiki District High Sfchool Committee wrote asking tho council to cooperate with tho committee in its efforts to secure an area of ground belonging to tho Police Department. A special committeo was set up to select a suitable site and to endeavour to arrange an exchango with the Polico Department.
