PETROL TAX INCREASE.
Sir,—ln estimating tho contribution of motor traffic toward the upkeep of the roads any taxation of motor traffic should bo included, even if it does not go direct to the road funds. Customs duties on imported motor vehicles amount to more than tho petrol tax in the total and'may amount to very much more in somo individual cases. A private motorist whose licence fees, petrol tax and tyre tax may not amount to £lO annually may have paid in advanco through customs duties when buying the car a sum equivalent to over £lO annually for the whole life of the c;ir.
