SHOP HOUR REGULATIONS.
Sir,—lt must be admitted by all that the absurd restrictions of shop hours are one of the greatest contributing causes to tho present deplorable state of the labour market in New Zealand. Instead of regulating shop hours the Act should apply to individuals and not trades. If enterprising enough to employ two shifts why not allow the business to carry on for 16 hours? This would result in more hands getting employment and more money circulating. As things aro at present Auckland is liko a city of the dead after 6 p.m. One wonders how small suburban shopkeepers manage to struggle along under the terrible existing handicap. 11. Birch Clark.
