MOUNT EDEN FINANCE.

Sir, —"More Light" is nyiking inquiries respecting various activities in the borough. He thanks Mr. Nagle for publishing certain information, and sn\'s he wants more. Has lie never thought of going to tho office to make inquiries ? The notice of (he rates states that the estimates and valuation rolls arc open for inspection, and lio can obtain in addition any further information he wants. From the tono of his letter, it would appear that he is feeling bitter-on some point. The rates have certainly been raised, for Mount Eden, like other municipalities, has been caught by the depression due to falling prices. The building trade has been abnormally slow, and valuations have accordingly suffered. Nobody foresaw this, not even Mr. Nagic. The council were unanimous in passing the estimates this year and last year. No amendment was submitted by any member of tho council. Whatever action the council has taken, Mr. Naglo shares in tho responsibility. There is something not very sporting in trying r.t n. time of genera! depression to show that ether persons are responsible for misfortunes that have befallen everybody. A. M- Btiyden, Deputy-Mayor.
