HIGHER HARBOUR CHARGES
VESSELS AT GISBORNE. COMPANIES RAISE FREIGHTS* [BY TELEGRATH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE.' Thursday. In consequence of the Gisborne Har* bour Board's decision to levy a harbour improvement rate and other increased charges against coastal vessels using the inner harbour, the shipping companies operating on the East Coast state that they aro compelled immediately to advance all freights by 2s 6d a ton. It is understood that the representatives of oversea shipping companies ara also considering the position created by the board's decision which, in relation to overseas ships, will mean an additional expense of up to £75 against future i arrivals. •
