A FATAL COLLISION.

CAR STRIKES BICYCLIST.

EARLY MORNING ACCIDENT.

[BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUTARURU, Thursday.

A serious accident occurred on the Cambridge-Tirau Roald, about three miles from Cambridge, early this morning, when a three-seatcr car, driven by Mr. James Oliver Barnett, a carpenter, of Putaruru, collided with a bicycle ridden by Mr. Robert Adams, a single man, of Cambridge. Sir. Adams was killed instantly. Tho car was overturned and the hood crushed in. Mr. Barnett received a severe cut in the forehead and shock. His passenger, Mr. Malcolm Angus, a hairdresser, of Putaruru, escaped without injury, although he is suffering from shock.

It is understood that the cyclist skidded in loose sand and came in violent contact with the car, which was travelling in the opposite direction. Mr. Adams, whose age was 35, was a farm worker. Ho had spent the evening at a friend's house at Ivarapiro, and was cycling home to Cambridge when the accident occurred. He had lived in Cambridge periodically for same years, although until three weeks ago lie was working with a brother on a farm at Taneatua. Another brother lives at Arapuni.

An inquest concerning the death was opened this afternoon before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., the coroner, but was adjourned sine die after the body had been identified by Thomas Adams, deceased's brother.
