STOCKS AND SHARES.
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BRISK BUSINESS DONE. Brisk business .was done on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, tho volunio of sales being greater than on any day for some time. While gilt-edged securities and selected stocks in other sections of tho market gained strength, weakness was apparent in sonio directions, particularly in banks. Three sales were made in Government investments at current or increased values. Inscribed Stock, 1933, 5£ per cent., was doalt in at £9B 7s 6d, a rise of 7a 6d. Two other sales of Inscribed Stock late on Wednesday wore reported. Tho 5J per cent, stock, maturing in 1933, appreciated 2s Gd with sale at £99 ss, and similar stock, maturing in 1936, was dono at tho same price, which was the current one. Dank shares were dealt in freely at reduced prices. Commercials of Australia fell another penny to 225, two transactions being recorded, ono of which was a late salo on Wednesday. At tho close quotations had receded to 213 6d and 21s lid. Now South Wales, which wero dono last Saturday at £4O 2s 6d, fell to £3B 10s and in a later transaction to £3B 7s 6d, after which buyers offered £3B for moro. Now also showed progressive weakening, being done at 59s 6d, a drop of 3d, and theii at 59s 3d, at which price more wore wanted, with sellers quoting 3d dearer. Union 3 also fell in two transactions, losing 5s to sell at £ll 16s, and dropping later to £ll 13s. Nationals of Australasia wore wanted 2s 6d dearer than on the prevuws day. Tho insurance group was quiet, tho orly price movement being a fall of 6d to 59s in offor3 for South British, with a reduction of 9d to 60s 3d in sellers' quotations. The remaining business was well spread. In gas the contributing issue of Aucklands rose 6d for sale at 18s 6d. Ia breweries New Zealands had sale at 51s, a fall of 9d. Five sales in tho miscellaneous group- showed varying price tendencies. Electrolytic Zincs, preference, fell 6d to 255. Tartinuki Oil Fields had salo Id cheaper at 2s Id. On tho other hand, Farmers' Trading shares rose 2d to sell at 9s and Farmers' Fertilisers wero 9d better at 20s 6d, while Wilsons Cements at 45s 6d showod a further gain m strength to tho extent of 3d. In tho mining group Waihis had salo at 13s 7d, a fall of Id. Mount Lyells recovered some ground, being dono 7d better at 27s 7d,
