EXPENDING ROAD GRANTS.

[Br TELEGRAPH- —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEEOHE, Thursday.

The Franklin County Council met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., presiding. Authority was received from the Public Works Department for the expenditure of the following free grants:— Brooke's Road, Awhitu, £250; Kemp's Road, Awhitu to Smith's, £3OO. Advice was also received that relief workers would be available for Given's Road and Cemetery Road, Pollok. The county engineer,' Mr. J. F. McArthur, was authorised to have the engineering surveys completed and the other data compiled for carrying out the intended work on the four roads mentioned. An arrangement for metalling a further length of Ostrich Road, Karaka, at an estimated cost of £IOO, the settlers contributing £7O, was approved. Authority was received from the Local Government Loans Board for the raising of the Happy Valley loan of' £4OO, at 6| per cent, interest, and 3 per- cent, sinking fund, and the Factory-Kitsons-Walters loan of £I7OO on the same terms. It was decided to proceed with the raising of the loans.
