TAKAPUNA ROADS.
Sir,—Under the above heading _ appeared a letter by Mr. John Gumiven, in which he takes exception to statenients made by a writer, "Torn Tyres,'' to the effect that the condition of thai portion of the main roa3 known as Walter's Hill, and from Hall's Corner to the post office, was a disgrace to the Takapuna Council and its head officials. Well, I must support " Torn Tyres' " statement. The cry that it is through lack of funds that the main road is ia such a shocking condition cannot be supported, as a very largo amount of money has been and is being- expended on a work at Bavswater which may prova ornamental, but is certainly not of public utilitv. In any case a main road bo maintained in a .reasonably, passahle condition and not left so tljat vehicles passing over it are seriously injured. The main road, with the exception of these two parts, is in good; order, and everyone wonders why a public body allows theao portions to bo so long neglected. Axotkee Tohn Ttbe.
