SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF.
PROPOSAL IN AUCKLAND.
EDUCATION BOARD'S SUPPORT.
Tho support of the Auckland Education Board was accorded yesterday to a proposal to establish a school for the tuition of deaf children in Auckland. The matter was brought under tho notice of the board by a deputation from tho Association for the Welfare of the Deaf.
Mr. R. C. Macpherson, president of the association, said a mooting had been held and ho had received a list, of names of those rwho would scud children . to a school in Auckland. At the present time, many children were sent from Auckland to the Sumner School, in Christ church. It was felt that this imposed a hardship on parents and children. He was confident that the requisite number of children would bo available in Auckland to justify the establishment of a school. Tho association had knowledge of 22 children in the Auckland Province who were not receiving education because of this disability and 23 others were attending the school at Sumner.
It was decided to urge the Education Department to make provision for the teaching of deaf children in Auckland.
