CLAIM FOR LAND TAKEN.

OWNER SEEKS £6619.
[nY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The taking last year of tho block of land in Willis fjtreet, known as Nimmo's Corner, formed the subject of a claim, heard in the Supreme Court yesterday and to-day, for £6619 16s compensation, mado by John Henry Garrett, restaurateur, and his wife, Margaret Garrett, against tho Wellington City Corporation. Tho property had been tho site of a popular eating-house for 16 years. Mr. A. Gray, K.C., for claimant, said Garrett, believing that tho property would not be taken, failed to tako advantage of an opportunity 1o secure new premises. Then suddenly' the City Council took action, and it was claimed that Garrett, as a result of, tho lands having been taken, had suffered a considerable loss. Mr. Gray mentioned that the corporation had offered £IOOO as compensation, hut that offer had not been accepted.
After heaving lengthy evidence His Honor said ho would give a reserved judgment.
