many horses schooled.

ODIN GIVES GOOD DISPLAY.

SIR ARCHIE IMPROVES. I

The jumpers wero strongly in evidence at Ellerslio yesterday, when some interesting pi'hcolin,,; work was performed. The outside of the course proper,' where the flags wero out about 25ft., and. the No. 3 grass wero used for galloping, and, although there were no really fast gallops, thero was a good deal to interest track-watchers. One of the bent exhibitions of juhi'ping was given by Odin, who went round tho steeplechase fences in dashing style. Several of the hack hurdlers also pleased and one v\ho displayed marked improvement in his lumping was Sir Archie, who infused plenty of dash intc a "school" over four hurdles. Details of tho work wero as follows : -- THE JUMPERS. Carlaris (13. Stanway) and Freyja (Cr. Chole) wero associated in a bout over four hurdles. They went at a eolid pace all tho way and both fenced, cleanly, Carlaris jumping really well for n beginner. E. Rao's roan St. Amans gelding (D. Craddock) and Twinkler (J. Mcßae) were sent over eight hurdles and they completed the task safely without being impressive. Somo of the fences they jumped well, whilo others they took awkwardly. Marble Mount (J. Preston) wont alono over six hurdles and. gavo a satisfactory display. Mountain Guide (D. Craddock) and Kamelmmeha (J. Mcßae) jumped eight hurdles well, Mountain Guido giving a fustclass display. Sir Archie (E. Stanway) and Respirator (J. Mcßae) wero companions in a bout over four hurdles. They had plenty of paco on and Sir Afcliio jumped boldly. Dark Princo (W. Kowo) jumped a couple of pony hurdles cleanly and Importer (J. Mcßae) was sent over tho sodwrJl, double and stonewall, Importer did not jump as well as usual, although ho mado no serious blunder. Odin (H. Duliuu) gavo a fino exhibition over a round of- the. steeplechase ffences. his jumping being clean and fast. Quincoma, (D. Craddock) set out to go with Odin, but bo got only as far as tlio second fonce on tho hill, where lie fell. COURSE PROPER. Corinax and Tho Lover wero responsible for seven furlongs in 1.35. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CERISTCHURCH. Tuesday. Conditions wdro very favourable for training operations at Riccarton to-day, and somo interesting work, in view of the Ashburton meeting on Saturday, was executed on the No. 7 gras? track, which is generally responsible for fast times, owing to being shorter than the posts used indicate. Arikiwai, assisted by Craigavon over fivo furlongs, ran si:i furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Hedid his work well, but afterwards showed signs of lameness behind. Toawai strode over tho same ground in 1.15 4-5, and Audience registered a Jiko performance. Rascal and Royal Mint covered five furlongs in .1.0, finishing abreast. Waterlino and Full Feather were together throughout a six-furlong gallop in 1.15 3-5. Solgele was responsible for a similar effort, and Straightcourse and Semper Paratus occupied 1.15 2-5. Bay Queen finished in front of Knockany at the end of three furlongs in 3(>s. Divinetto and Hounslow recorded 1.17 2-5 for a useful six-furlon;? task. Swiftray and Greenaway galloped half u, mile comfortably in 51s, and Sapient ro corded a like time for tho some distance. Minerval and Garvary were responsible for a smart effort over half a mile in 50s. The former is a promising two-year-old gelding by Arrowsmith from tlio Martian mare Lady Minerva, and looks likely to bo more than useful later on. Aberfeldy and Quarterdeck wero not impressive in their work over seven furlongs, which occupied 1.32 2-5. Ranelagh was going easily in recording 1.10 1-5 for six furlongs. Arro.vmir find Airplane ran fivo furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Zeuxis was not ridden out to cover seven furlongs in 1.31 1-8. Gala Day (I. Tilnon) cave a good display in jumping seven steeplechase fences, and Hyperion (E. Shaw) negotiated a round of the country in pleasing stylo. Great Star has been kept going since last raced and to-day sprinted half a mile in pis. lie has received plenty of weight for his first day's engagement at Dunedin, and the trip is as yet undecided. Dunravcn furnished out to a marked degree during his recent spoil, and is much more robust in appearance. He was allotted a three-turlong sprint to-day, and is to be kept moving frqm now onwards, with u view to early spring racing.

Last week Mr. L. ,J. Fcchney, owner of Lord Ranald. decided that the gelding would get more opportunities by being trained at Riccarton, and- accordingly sent hiin to T 11. Gillett's stable yesterday. Lord Ranald is at present carrying an enlarged leg. but this is not expected to interfere with his preparation for winter racincr.
