OBITUARY

MRS. S. J. HEWITT. The death of Mrs. S. J. Hewitt, of Clyde Street, Epsom, occurred yesterday at her homo. She was in her 74th year. Bom in Ireland, Mrs. Hewitt came to New Zealand 55 years ago with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Storey. After living with them for two years at Tuakau, whero tho family settled, Mrs. Hewitt married Mr. Samuel Hewitt, ami took up her residence at Buckland, where she lived for 35 years. In 1910, six years after tho death of her husband, Mrs. Hewitt came to Auckland, where she lived until tho timo of her death. Sho was interested in social work among tho Maoris, and was an active supporter of tho Bible-in-sehools movement. Mrs. Hewitt leaves two sons and five daughters. The sons nro Mr. A. S. Hewitt, of Buckland, and Mr. W. 0. Hewitt, of Tuakau.

News has been received of the death in Brisbane on April 11 of Mr. John Olive, a, veteran of the Maori Wars, who was well known in the Waikato. After the Waikato War Mr. Ohye settled on his farm near Lake Ngaroto. Te Awamutu, where he was actively engaged in farming and fruitgrowing for over 20 years. His wife died about 25 years ago. He leaves a married daughter in Sydney and a son in Brisbane.
