POWER BOARD CHAIRMAN.
MR. HAYDEN'S RETIREMENTSTRIBUTES FROM MEMBERS. Eulogistic references to the services of Mr. J. W. Hayden as chairman of the Waitemata Elcctric-Power Board were made at the annual meeting of'the board yesterday, when Mr. Hayden resigned his seat on the board. Mr. G. Trevithbk was elected chairman for the ensuiag year. In presenting Mr. Hayden with a fountain pen and stand, Mr. W. I!. T. Leighton said Mr. Hayden had bec-n chairman since 1924, when the board first commenced' operations. Members would agree that he had acted fairly throughout his term of office and had been unsparing in his work for the board. Other members paid tributes "to* Mr« Havden's service. In reply, Mr. Hayden said the credit for the successful establishment of the board was duo to the work of several persons, among whom could be placed tha foundation members now on the hoard. He also paid a tribute to tho* board's executive officers and staff "and said that a harmonious feeling had existed while he was chairman. He expressed satisfaction that the foundation policy of the board had, in a. large measure, continued to be observed. " It is possible tho board will bo able to reduce its charges at the end of the present financial year/' said Mr. Havden. " This step will be greatly appreciated in the country districts." A resolution expressing appreciation o{ Mr. Hayden's services was passed. Two nominations were received for the office of chairman, those of Mr. Trevithick and Mr. Greenslade. Tho former was elected by a majority of three votes.
