NAVAL CONFERENCE.
REPORT BY MR. STIMSON.
BRITISH ACTION PRAISED.
WASHINGTON, May 12. The Secretary of State, Mr. H. L., Stimson, gave evidence to-day before the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate, which is holding topen hearings' on the London Naval Treaty. Mr. Stimson Baid the treaty was n fair and honourable agreement, which had brought parity between Britain and the United States, and paved the way to furthor limitations.
"My colleagues at the conference/' he said, " will agree with me that Britain is not building against us." Ho laid emphasis 011 the criticism in England of the British Government for its reductions in cruisers, but added that for Britain to reduce her cruisers was a very fine action. Mr, Stimson said the American Delegation was responsible for preventing a break-up of tho conference at one time, in a "bad atmosphere,"'which was due to the problems of the British, French and Italian differences.
He said in conclusion that the London Conference was a long step forward.

In the House of Commons tho Prime Minister, Mr. Mac Donald, informed Viscount Wolmcr, Conservative member for Aldershot, that ho had not received any communications from tho Dominions criticising tho agreements reached at tho Fivo Powers Naval Conference.
NEW JAPANESE CRUISER.
COMPLETION OF QUOTA. TOKIO. May 12. Tlio new Japanese cruiser Tokao was successfully launched to-day at Yokosukft in tlio presence of the Empress, Prince and Princess Chicliibu and other members of the Imperial Family, and a distinguished gathering of officials, headed by tlio Prime Minister, Mr. 0. Hainagtichi.
The ceremony was witnessed by 130,000 spectators. This is tho eighth and last cruiser of 10,000-ton class, which completes Japan's quota under tho London Naval Treaty.
