Some volcano among the Aleutian Islands has become so active that the North Pacific has been showered with lava.

The captain of the steamer Kentucky, which is in mid-Pacific, 2000 miles west of Vancouver Island, reports by wireless that half nn inch of dry sand fell upon the decks of his vossel.

Tho Aleutian Islands stretch about 1650 miles west from tho narrow peninsula of Alaska and belong to the United States. They are treeless, grassy and mostly mountainous, with numerous volcanic peaks.
