THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

MARKET A LITTLE FIRMER. Except for Government securities, which cased a shade, tho investment market was a little firmer on tho Auckland Stock Exchango yesterday. Offers weakened in several instances in War Loans, and local body debentures wcro not quite so strongly supported. Tlio only business done in tho group was in Williamson's Films, 1949, per cent., which changed hands at £IOO. In banks firmer levels ruled for Commercials of Australia. The ordinary issue moved up ls7jd, being taken at 21s 4£d, and the new issue, fully paid, wcro dono firmer at 20s 6d. Australasias wcro obtained unaltered at £l2 6s, and moro were available at £l2 6s 6d. English, Scottish and Australians, which had sale 3s cheaper on tho local market, at £6 2s, were equal to tho level ruling in Christchurch. Offers for New South Wales were 7s 6d firmer at £39 2s 6d, and sellers asked £4O. Inquiry was strong for insurance stock. New Zealands made a current-prico sale at 43s 6d. In loan and agency Goldsbrough-Morts and Loan and Mercantiles wero sought on a firmer basis. Coals were littlo changed, and in gas the contributing issue of Aucklands wero dealt in 2d dearer at 17s 6d. In breweries New Zealands and Tooths wcro inquired for at higher levels. Greater attention was devoted to general investments. British Tobaccos commanded stronger support, and business was dono at 38s 6d. Is 6d above tlio level of tho last sale in Christchurch. The previous transaction on the Auckland Exchange was at 40s. Kempthorno-Prossers were done unchanged at 63s 9d, and a transaction was recorded in the preference issue of lI.M. Arcades at 21s. No business was done in mining investments. Monnt Lyells maintained the recovery registered at tho closo of the previous day's business, and wcro wanted Is Cd firmer at 28s 9d. Sellers asked 29s 2d.
