REGIONAL PLANNING.
EVIDENCE AT TAURANGA.
SUGGESTED BOUNDARIES,
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] TAURANGA, Tuesday.
The Regional Planning Committee of the Town Planning Board opened its sittings at Tauranga yesterday and continued this morning. There were over 40 delegates present from practically every local body in the Bay of Plenty, and also delegates from Rotorua, Matamata, Thames and Paeroa.
The Mayor of Tauranga, Sir. B. C. Robbins, expressed his views as to the region which ho considered should be created in tlio Bay of Plenty, with Tauranga as its focal point. He thought the counties of Tauranga, Whnkatane, Opotiki and Rotorua, with a portion of the Ohinemuri County and the Borough of Waihi should be included. Mr. Walter Reid. chairman of the Whakatane County Council, said ho did not think Waihi could be included in the Bav of Plenty area.
Mr. Ford, the chairman of the Rotorua County Council, submitted that owing to its peculiar position, another area should be created, with Rotorua as the focal point, and embracing the Rotorua and East Taupo Counties. The Rotorua Borough Council, ho said, was of tho same opinion.
Mr; W. F. Sinclair, chairman of tho Tauranga County Council* said the unanimous opinion in tho Tauranga County was that the area should be the Tauranga, Whakatano and Opotiki Counties, with Rotorua included, if it chose to come in. Mr. C. Fleming, town clerk of Opotiki, advocated tho formation of a separata area, comprising Whakatane, Opotiki, Matakaoa and Waiapu Counties. Tho inquiry has concluded.
