URGENT NEED OF RAIN.
DUNEDIN POWER AND WATER
RIGID ECONOMY IMPERATIVE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COIUIESrONDENT.] DUNEDIN, Tuesday.
The dry spell which has caused a curtailment of tho Duncdin power supply shows no sign of breaking and tho position is more; serious than ever. The city water supply also is threatened. Tho water storage in lake Mahinerangi is calculated to last 14 days. An announcement was made by tho town clerk to-day to tho effect that rigid economy is imperative in regard to lighting sorvices, heaters, ranges and particularly motors. Tho alternative is a compulsory restriction that will be a hardship and not merely an inconvenience.
