WORKS OF TSCHAIKOWSKI.
ADDRESS AT LYCEUM CLUB.
The life and works of tho Russian composer, Tschaikowski, were most interestingly given in a paper read by Miss Aheo Law, L.R.A.M., at a meeting of tho music circle of tho Lyceum Club last evening. Miss Law was introduced to tho members by Miss Kent, convener of tho music circle. To illustrate her address, Miss Law had arranged a very fine pro gramme consisting of many of Tschai kowski's compositions, and these were listened to with great interest by the members.
His finest works, said Miss Law in tho course of her lecture, were his orchestra) compositions. His operas, unfortunately, were seldom heard in England.
The programme, which was given dur lug the course of Miss Law's address, consisted of three pieces from the Casso ,\ois etto Suite, ''Valso des Flours," "Dansc des Mirlitons" and "Tropak," played as a pianoforte duet by Miss Law and Mrs- W. Clark; vocal solos, "None but the Weary Heart" and "To the Forest," by Miss Vida Nelson; pianoforte solo, "Theme and Variations," Miss Law; violin solo, "Canzonetta" from Concerto for violin, Miss Amy Stevenson; string quartette, "Andante," Misses Stevenson, Gray, Shelmerdine and Phillips; vocal solos, "New Hopes" and "Meditation," Miss Berta Carr; violin solos, "Chanson Tristo" and "Chant sans Paroles," Miss Stevenson; pianoforte solos, "Nocturne" and "Troiker," Miss Law; duo for two pianos, "Andante" and "Allegretto Grazioso," from the "Pathetic Sym phony," Miss Law and Mrs. W. Clark. Supper concluded a very pleasant evening.
