AUSTRALIAN LEGATION.
MINISTER TO AMERICA.
MR. FENTON ON PROPOSAL.

WASHINGTON, May 10,
The Australian Minister of Trade and Customs, Mr. J. E. Fenton, made a statement to-day concerning rumours that ho had discussed in America matters relativo t,o tho possible establishment of an Australian Legation in America. Mr. Fenton, in tho courso of a long statement reviewing his activities in tho United States, said ho would make a full report to his Cabinet on this matter.
He declined to make predictions, but said the Irish Free State, Canada and South Africa were enthusiastic about tho results of their Legations. The statement concluded: " I say to tho United States nrid its people that lam truly thankful to have mot many of them, and have enjoyed their abundant hospitality. Wo are brothers, and I trust will ever be so."
Mr. Kenton arrived at New York this evening, en rouf.o to Montreal.
