QUEEN CENSURED.
VISIT TO PUBLIC HOUSES. SCOTTISH TEMPLARS* REGRETS. (Received May 5, 7.15 p.m.) LONDON, May 4. The Scottish Grand Lodge of Good Templars solemnly censured the Queen and Princo George for visiting two model public houses in tho London district, ono of which is conducted by a clergyman and has been blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The resolution was: —"Wo regret that Prince George visited a so-called public house, stood behind tho bar and shook hands with the regular customers of the house, thereby countenancing what his Royal relative Prince Leopold declared to be the only enemy England has to fear. We regret this all the more as the Queen recently visited another public house in the same district."
Many people and prominent clergymen of the district declared that no cause suffered more from exaggerated advocacy, nnbridled language, misplaced enthusiasm and lack of Christian charity than that of temperance folk.
