TREE-FELLING FATALITY.
SCHOOLBOY STRUCK ON HEAD ACCIDENT AT MANGAWEKA, [j)Y TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAIHAPE, Monday. A sad fatality occurred at Mangaweka, near Taihape, on Saturday afternoon, when Leo Max O'Dea, a schoolboy, aged 14, was killed through being struck on the head by a falling tree. At the inquest held at Mangaweka today, before the coroner, Mr. J. P. Aidridge, Eric O'Dea, an elder brother, said he and his brother, Douglas, were felling a dead tree, and deceased was standing about three yards away watching them. The tree was about 18ft. long and about twelve inches thick. "Witness had no sooner told his,young brother to go back when the tree fell and struck him on the head, knocking him to the ground. Dr. Sinclair said that death was due to a fractured skull. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death.
