ROTORUA EXPRESSES.
NEW TRAINS POPULAR, FIRST DAY OF SERVICE. Both the Rotorua limited expresses, which began their running to-day, were practically full trains. The express from Auckland, which left at 10.10 a.m., consisted of two first-class carriages, four second-class, an observation car and a guard's van. The only vehicle not well filled was the observation car, which had but a few passengers. This is not altogether a surprise, but the railway officials believe that the cars will become very popular when they are better known. The express which loft Rotorua rather late did not reach Auckland until 4.30, about half-an-hour behind time. Such was the demand for accommodation that an extra carriage had to be put on at Frankton. Tho passengers greatly appreciated the comfort of tho new carriages and also tho faster schedule, which reduces tho running time by an hour, making it about six hours. To-day tho trains will be made up to their full normal length by adding ono more second-class carriage. Heavy passenger traffic is expected on and after Thursday, when excursion rates will be available for tho school holidays.
