STRAND THEATRE. An entertaining story concerning the ad-' ventures of a young man and his mother who coinc from a small American town to Paris provides tho thenio of "Paris," tho chief film of the current programme at tlie Strand Theatre. The young man, whoso part is taken by Jason Robardo, while ostensibly studying architecture, falls in love with a French actress, Irene Bordoni. His mother hurriedly follows to Paris, but fulls in love with the actress' leading man. The complications that ensue forms tho basis of an entertaining story. Accomplished acting marks the representation of the Puritan mother by Louise Closser Hale, while Jack Buchanan ably sustains the role of the actress' leading man. 1 lie shorter films comprise a coloured sccnic_ study, "Tenderfoot," with several impressive scenes, a news reel dealing with New Zealand, vaudevillo items by the Howard Brothers, and well-rendered violin solos by Albert Spalding.

MAJESTIC THEATRE. \VilJiarn Powell has the role of a successful producer who falls in love with a member of his chorus in "Pointed Heels," tho principal picture now being shown at tho Majestic Theatre The plot is well conceived, and tho treatment of the story reveals the skill of tho producer. Fay Wray gives a convincing portrayal in the part of the leading lady, and there is a strong supporting cast. An enjoyable addition of humour is provided by Uelen Kano and "Sheets" Gallagher. Douglas Fairbanks, junr., appears in tho second main feature, "The Careless Age," in which Carmel Myers has the chief female part. Two interesting news reels are included in the programme, and an overture is render ,d by the orchestra.

ST. JAMES' THEATRE. "On With tho Show," tho chief picture of the current programme at St. James' Theatre, is a brilliant production illustrating the best features of a musical comedy in an all-talking film version. Bright stago settings arc provided for the many revue numbers, and the use of the teehnicolour process throughout gives a richness of display. An interesting story is interwoven into the stago action, and tho addition of a humorous element gives the whole a satisfactory completeness. Arthur Lako and Betty Compson play the chief parts, and tho strong supporting cast includes Sally O'Neill, Louise Fazenda and Joo E. Brown. A selection of shorter films completes the programme.

REGENT THEATRE. Tho popular actor Richard Dix has tho leading role in "Tho Lovo Doctor." which is now being shown nt tho Regent Theatre. Tho picture has an amusing plot dealing with tho adventures of a young doctor, n confirmed bachelor, who finds his attentions being sought both by his pretty nurso and by a charming young friend of his principal male patient. "Love Comes Along," the main supporting feature, is an appealing romance of Spanish South America, in which Bebe Daniels has the leading -role. A change of programme will occur on Friday, when "The Trial of Mary Dugan," the screen version of the stage play of the same name, will commence a season. The picture, which is concerned mainly with tho trial for inurder of a beautiful chorus girl, js chiefly notablo for tho atmosphere of suspense preserved throughout. Norma Shearer, tho principal of "Tho Last of Mrs. Cheyney," has the leading role. CIVIC THEATRE. A well-known Now York revuo artist, Harry Richman, has tho leading rolo in "Puttin* on tho Ritz," the main feature of the current programme at the Civic Theatre. Several attractive vocal numbers have been incorporated in the picture, the most noteworthy being the song scena, "Alice in Wonderland," which is produced in natural colour. Musical items are also provided by the orchestra, under Mr Ted. He-nkel, and tho organist, Mr. Fred. Seholl. At tho end of the week n, British production, "Atlantic," dealing with the story of tho Titanic, will commence a season. John Longden, Franklin Dyall, Ellalino Torris. Francis Lister, and D. A. Clarke-Smith have the leading roles. ROXY THEATRE. The popular actress Betty Compson has a suitable role in "Woman to Woman," the main feature of the current programme at the Roxy Theatre. She appears as a dancer in a Paris enfe, and her adventures form tho basis of an entertaining plot. The supporting features arc of an interesting nature. CRYSTAL PALACE THEATRE. "Tho Rainbow Man," an amusing picture with a strong lovo interest, is now being shown at the Crystal Palace Theatre. There is a strong cast. EMPRESS THEATRE. Lewis Stone and Leila Hyams have the leading roles in "Wonder of Women," which is now being shown at tho Empress Theatre. Shorter supporting features are also screened. ALEXANDRA THEATRE. An entertaining plot is unfolded in "His Glorious Night." which is now being shown at tho Alexandra Theatre, Green Lane. The film is interpreted by a strong cast. IJE LUXE AND WEST END. Tho screen version of Edna Fcibei s novel "Show Boat" heads tho cunent. programmo at both tho Do Luxe and West End Theatres. A number of amusing episodes have been incorporated in the production. Tlicro is a strong, cast. ARCADIA THEATRE. Victor McLaglen and Edmund Lowe have the principal roles in '"lho Cockeyed World," which is now being shown at tho Arcadia Theatre. The picture is the talking sequel to "What I nco Glory ?"

The Tudor Theatre, Remucra, will not bo open this evening, but . will reopen tomorrow, when "Noah's Ark" will be shown "Tho Desert Song" will commence a season at tho theatre on Thursday. " THE NEW MORALITY." " The New Morality," a bright English comedy, will be produced at tho Town Hall concert chamber on Friday and Saturday evenings this week, in aid of the New Zealand obstetrical fund. Mrs. Bartlev-Baxter is tho stage manager of tho production, which will bo presented by a number of capable amateurs. Iho incidental music is said to bo a novel feature of the entertainment, and an orchestra of 20 musicians under the baton of Mr. Harold Baxter will render a specially-arranged programme. Ihe Governor-General, Lord Bledisloo, and Lady Bledisloo havo intimated they will attend tho performance.
