CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED.
COLLISION AT PAPATOETOE.
VERDICT AT THE INQUEST.
An inquest was held yesterday into the death of Arthur Loxdalo Frost, widower, aged 64, of Papatoetoe, who died in Auckland Hospital as tho result of injuries received when his bicyclo collided with a motor-car driven by William John Douglas, of Mangero, at Papatoetoe,. on April 6. The inquest was held beforo Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in tho Otahuhu Police Court. Mr. West appeared on behalf of Douglas. Prior to tho inquest the scene of tho accident was inspected by tho coroner, tho polico and the witnesses.
Douglas said he was returning from Pukekohe and was approaching the intersection of Portage Roacl, Grey's Avenue, and Station Road, Papatoetoe. where tho collision occurred, at about_ten miles an hour. Deceased was immediately in front when witness first saw him. Seeing a collision could not be avoided, he applied his brakes and pulled to the right, thp front mudguard striking tho bicycle. Pulling the car up, ho jumped out and found deceased lying on the road. Tim car did not pass over the bicycle or deceased. Witness rang tho doctor and police. Deceased was known to him and he spoko to him after tho accident.
After evidence of other witnesses had been heard tho coroner returned a vcrditc of accidental death. Mr. Hunt added that it seemed that both deceased and Douglas committed a slight error of judgment. Both had been travelling slowly at the time.
