VALUE OF THE BIBLE.
SPECIAL DAY IN CHURCHES,; A large number of. the Protestant churches of Auckland observed yesterday as Biblo Sunday, in order to bring before the attention of the congregations the work of the British and Foreign Bibla Society, which for the past 125 years has been sending the Bible to all parts of the world. Last year it. issued between 11,000.000 and 12,000,000 copies of the Scriptures, in no fewer than 618 languages. Preaching afi St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. 1. E. Bertram took as his theme "The Bible in the World and iu Life." It was the invaluable help to direct and develop thought and conduct, he said. The three things the world needed—a sense of unity, a right view of relationships and a worthy programme for the future—were supplied by the Bible in its teaching of the universal fatherhood of God, in Christ's law of the Golden Rule and in the prayer "Thy will bo done on earth as it is in Heaven." The message of the Bible gava promise for the present life and for the life that was to come.
