MUSICAL EVENING.
MISS EDITH HARRHY. A musical evening given by Mrs. Beck Daly (Miss Edith Harrhy, tho wellknown composer and song writer) at the Lyceum Club yesterday was responsible for bringing together a largo number of moinbers who spent a thoroughly delightful tiino. Mrs. Daly was most generous in responding to the wishes of her audience, and she gave* them a very varied programme, largely of her own compositions. Mrs. Buttle presided in place of tho president, Mrs. \V. 11. Parkes, who is indisposed, and in introducing Mrs. Daly spoke of her great versatility in the field of music and of her achievement as a writer of verso as well.
With many of Mrs. Daly's songs for children her audience was moro or less familiar, but in addition to her earlier ones sho sang somo from a later book, " .Moro Children's Songs," typically Australian in character. Others wero " The King's Breakfast," " Roses for the King," written to verses by Charles Sutor; "Colette," written in Auckland; "Mary Magdalen," a delightful Goblin song, a song by Schumann and another by Brahms, and finally a song " Tho Victorious Dead," in which she had set to music some verses which wero written upon tho painting by Sir John Longstaffe, " Menin Gate." She also played several pianoforte solos, including a nocturne, two Chopin valses, a melody by Rachmaninoff and a composition by Palmgren. Very much enjoyed were the trios played by the Misses Moore, which indueled a rondo. Alia Turca, by Mozart, a nogro spirituelle, " Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen," (White) and " The Mill."
Warm appreciation of a most delightful evening was shown by the gathering and later supper was sorved in an adjoining room.
