TASMANIAN AIR CRASH.
INQUEST ON VICTIM OPENED. OPINION AS TO CAUSE. HOBART, March 22. At the inquest concerning the death of McGowan, the wireless operator on (lie naval seaplane which crashed at Norfolk Bay, Squadron-Leader Scriven expressed the opinion that the accident was due to a bump when the machine was turning at too slow a speed while FlyingOfficer Grant was manoeuvring for a position to photograph the fall of the warships' shots. The seaplane was of an old type, obsolete for the exacting requirements of naval work, although perfectly safe for ordinary flying.
The inquiry was adjourned until the injured officers are able to attend.
