Mrs. Bernard Goldwater, of Devonport, who accompanied Mrs. Albert Goldwater to Wellington, has returned to Auckland. Mis. Albert Goldwater left by the fop England, where she will join her daughter, Miss M. Goldwater.
At the meeting of the Mothers' Club held in the Y.W.C.A. last week the Rev. Roberts, of Mount Eden, and the Rev. David Jones; of Wellington, gave interesting addresses. The former made a presents,tion on behalf, of the members of the dub to Miss Munro, a daughter of one of the .members on the eve of. her marriage, the gift being a bronze jardiniere.
To journey through Palestine, Arabia, and Svria by caravan, pointing all the way, will be'the interesting experience of Miss Constance Paul, of Sydney, a talented young portrait and landscape painter, who left for Alexandria this I month. Miss Paul has two portraits on ' view in the Archibald Prize Collection in Sydney at the present time.
A friend loi all the newsboys of Australia and honorary secretary of the Newsboys' .Society, Miss Edith Onians, received a wonderful welcome on her return to Melbourne from a trip abroad recently. During her sojourn in England, America and Europe, Miss Onians carefully studied the delinquency question in every country she visited and bad some interesting comments to make on her observations.
Mrs. Andrew Grant was guest of honour at a farewell afternoon given in the Kurneu Public Hall prior to her departure from the district. Mrs. J. "Wilson expressed regret at losing such a willing helper in the district, and on behalf oT the ladies of the district presented Mrs. Grant with a silver fruit stand. An amusing competition was held which was won by Mrs. T. Clark.
Mrs. Deans, ex-president of the Christchurch branch of the Victoria League, who is leaving 'next month for a visit to England, was the guest of honour at a farewell paj-ty given her last week by the league executive. Mrs. Bovle presented Mrs. Deans with a small memento H in the form of a travelling clock from ' the committed, who wished to express their appreciation of the good work she had done during the five years she had been president.

At the civic reception which was given to Their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe, last week, the decorations at the Town Hall were exceptionally bandsome. Masses of dowers, native greenery and ferns were all artistically disposed, and the general effect was enhanced by the free use of flags and shields. The Girl Guides and Sea Scouts 'had the pleasure of being selected to form the guard of honour, and the reception party included the Mayor and Mayoress, the Chief Justice and Lady Myers, tho Hon. G. .W. and Mrs. Forbes, the Hon. Sir Thomas Sidev, Lady Sidcv, Mrs. Bernard Wood and the Mayors and Mayoresses of the outlying boroughs. Her Excellency made a distinguished appearance in a gown of flame coloured chiti'on in long evening style, with diamond ornaments, her coat being of ermine with collar, cuffs and hem of white fox. The bouquet presented was of carnations and fern. There was a very large and representative gathering of citizens from 'Wellington citv and suburbs and surrounding districts, and the proceedings Were all marked bv enthusiasm.
