SURVEY DEPARTMENT.

RETIREMENT OF OFFICER. Officers of the draughting and clerical staffs of the.Auckland office of the Lands and Survey Department met recently to farewell Mr. Donald M. Wilson, chief draughtsman, ivho is retiring shortly after 30 years' service. The staff surveyors presented him with a travelling rug and a set of pipes, while the draughting and clerical branches gave him a leather travelling case and a gold cigarette case.

Mr, Wilson joined the service in 1838 as engineering surveyor and draughtsman in the New Plymouth office.' He'served in Nelson and again in New Plymouth, and last year he came to the Auckland office.
