LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
EPSOM BRANCH. The first monthly meeting of the year was held in the Baptist Church Hall, Inverness Avenue. Mrs. T. H. Macky presided over a well-attended meejting. After business matters had been dealt with, Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell, provincial president, addressed the members on the progress of the league's work, and recommended the reading of several books which had greatly benefited members. Miss Arey, provincial secretary, also addressed the meeting. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. A. St. Clair Brown and Mrs. A. J. Moody. MOUNT ALBERT BRANCH. The first meeting for this year of the Mount Albert League of Mothers was held in the Presbyterian Hall on Thursday. There was a good attendance. Mrs. E. Turner, president, occupied the chair, and gave a brief outline of the aims and objects of the league. A report of last year's activities was read by Mrs. Ohms, secretary. Solos were rendered by Miss Utting and Mrs. Bell. At the close of the business meetings an appeal, made by Dr. Hilda Northcroft on behalf of the Obstetrical Chair Endowment Fund, resulted in a committee being immediately formed, with Mrs. Tattersfield as convener, and Mrs. Ohms, Mrs. Macßride and Mrs. Smythe as sub-conveners for their several districts. Dr. Florence Montgomery was associated with Dr. Northcroft on the platform and ably supported her appeal. The annual election of officers took place, resulting as follows.—Mrs. E. Turner, president (re-elected); Mrs. MacBride, vice-president; Mrs. Ohms, secretary (re-elected); Mrs. Wattam, magazine secretary. HENDERSON. The first meeting for the year of the Henderson branch ,of the League of Mothers was held in the Foresters Hall this week. The president, Mrs. Walsh, was in the chair. The election of officers for the ensuing year was as fol I lows:—President;, Mrs. Walsh; secretary j and treasurer, Mrs. J. Kennedy; committee, Mesdames Piatt, Williams, Per- j kins and Eason. A vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring officers. It' was decided to attend the meoting called next week for the raising of funds for a chair of obstetrics. An address on the sanctity of marriage was given by Rev. 0. E. Perkins,, and the meeting concluded with afternoon tea. MANUREWA, The Mantirevva branch of the League of Mothers held their annual meeting on Thursday in the Manurewa Town Hall. There was a large gathering of members. Mrs. S. McCallum was re-elected president; Mrs. A. Wrigley, secretary (reelected) r Mesdames. Whyte, Sexton, Wilson, Phillips, committee; Sister Campbell, treasurer (re-elected); Mrs. Houghev, librarian, also re-elected. The president spoke of the aims and objects of: the league, and thanked all members who helped to make the past year such a success. Matters concerning the provincial conference arid reunion were discussed, also arrangements for the meeting to be held later in the year. Afternoon tea was served at the conclusion of the meeting.
