LOITERING ABOUT CITY.
" NO WAY TO SEEK WORK."
SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT,
" Loitering about Auckland for three years is not the right way of looking for work in the country," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when Edward Percy Heyes, described as a labourer, aged 46, was. charged with being an incorrigible rogue.
Constable Mulholland said he saw accused in Customs Street East early yesterday morning. He was looking into motor-car which was parked.in the street, and when accosted by the constable said lie was looking for a man in the car in order to borrow a match. Later witness had found accused sleeping under some trees'.
Acting-Detective Craigie said he knew accused well. He had been drinking and loitering about the city at various times during the past three years. Accused said he was on the point of setting out into the country to look for work. He had not been loitering about, but'had returned to the city from Pukekohe, where he had last been in employment.
Senior-Sergeant O'Grady said accused had 16 previous convictions. He was last before the Court in January, when he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The Magiestrate: I" wish there was some place to which I could send him. For the sake of the community he must be put away somewhere. As there is no other place to send him, he will be sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
