CITY FIRM VICTIMISED.
VALUELESS CHEQUES ISSUED,
-An engineer, James Anloine Fleming, 6ged 27, described as a Canadian, was charged in the Police Court yesterday ■with attempting to obtain £l7 14s from tho Farmers' Trading Company, Ltd., by iss'uing a valueless cheque. ChiefDetective Hammond said accused and another man had obtained a blank cheque from a.clerk in a city bank. Accused had then filled in tho cheque in a fictitious name, and his companion was caught trying/to cash it. Accused, who pleaded guilty, was remanded for sentence until Monday. A similar charge was preferred against !i John Ryan, who was alleged to have obtained a gold watch, chain and pendant from the Farmers' Trading Company, Ltd., by issuing a valueless cheque to the amount of £ICO. Accused pleaded guilty, and on the application of ChiefDetective Hammond, who said there were . other charges pending, he was remanded for sentence until March 27. Charles Edward Southerwood, labourer, ■j aged 25, \ who was arrested yesterday morning on a charge of stealing a cash box, valuod at 7s 6d, and the sum of £2 10b, was remanded until March 27.
