OBITUARY.

MRS. SARAH ANN SMY.

The death of Mrs. Sarah Ann Smy, aged 89, occurred at Birkenhead on Wednesday. Mrs. Smy was bom at Prestbury, Gloucestershire, and when 30 years of age, arrived at Dunedin. There she was married to Mr. John Austin, a railway platelayer ih the South Island, who was guard on the first train that ran to Clinton. After his death, the widow successfully carried on. business as a fruiterer in Christchurch. When 60 years of age she married Mr. Thomas Smy, who was engaged in farming in the Gisborne district. Her husband died early in 1914, and Mrs. Smy removed to Parnell, where during thfe war she worked assiduously for patriotic purposes. For the past 10 years she had resided at Birkenhead. The funeral took place in the Church of England cemetery at Birkenhead yesterday afternoon, the Rev. P. C. Davis officiating.

MR. THOMAS McCALL. A well-known resident of Te Kuiti, Mr. Thomas McCall, died recently in a private hospital at Otorohanga at the ace of 65. Mr. McCall was born in Cambridge, spending some years on Gregg's Estate, Longbeach, and also in Marlborough. He later lived at Karaka. Mr. McCall, who never married, is survived by a brother and sister in Otorohanga, a brother in Te Aroha and a brother on the Waihi Plains. The funeral took place at Cambridge yesterday.

MRS. E. G. FROST. [BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] TUAKAU, Thursday. The death occurred last evening of Mrs. Frost, aged 73 years, wife of Mr. E. G. Frost, of Tuakau, and a lifelong resident of the Auckland Province. Mrs. Frost was the seventh daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rooney, of Auckland. Her father arrived in New Zealand about the year 1842, and Mrs. Frost waS born in a house in Princes Street, Auckland, on the site over which the Auckland Museum was later built. She was married to Mr. Frost at St. Mark's Church in 1878, and for the next two years they resided at Wharau, near Dargaville, where Mr. Frost was engaged in the timber trade. The following eight years were spent at Epsom. , , In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Frost settled lit Tuakau, taking up their residence on the rise just above tho Waikato River. Mrs. Frost was & member of the Old Colonists Association, and in her earlier yoars was well acquainted with Sir George Grey. In all she was 42 years at Tuakau, where she was a well-known resident. Mr. and Mrs. Frost celebrated their golden wedding two years ago. Mrs. Frost is survived by her husband, three sons. Messrs. E. T. Frost and H. M. Frost, of Tuakau, and A. R. Frost., of Tekohnnga, and four daughters, Mosdames L. Logan, of Tuakau, T. C. Weston, of Ellerslie, W. Cantehn, of Royal Oak. and A. D. Fordyce, of Epsom. There are 17 grandchildren.
