NEW MOTOR REEL PROPOSED.

BOARD REJECTS SUGGESTION. [BY UXEORArH.—QWK CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA. Thursday. ' At a meeting of the To Arolia Fire Board last eveniug, a proposal was made to purchase a new motor reel at a cost 'of £7OO. Mr. C. A. .Arthur recall d that in. June, 1928, the inspector had reported that the motor -hose tender then in, use was underpowered for fire fighting purposes; : ' ' ' « The proposal was opposed by Messrs. W. Skegg and H. Tregear, of Auckland, on behalf of the insurance companies. Mr. Skegg said the superintendent had reported that tho apparatus watf efficient. There was no necessity to burden ratepayers with tho amount stated in view of the fact that the machine at present in use could bo utilised for another 0110 or two years. . Mr. Arthur said it was a fact that during a recent test tho machine now used by tho brigado had failed to climb a hill. Mr. It. Coulter stated that the machine now in use was unsuitable and should have been replaced years ago.

The proposal was lost. An estimated expenditure of £649 for 1950, compared with £635 for 1929, was approved.
