ENGINEER DEFENDS ROADS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. " Membership in the Auckland Automobile Association does not constitute proficiency in driving a car," said Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald, engineer to the Matamata County Council, in reply to criticism that many motor-car accidents were caused by loose shingle on tho county roads. Mr. Fitzgerald said 99 per cent, of the car accidents were due not to tho condition of the roads, but to faulty mechanism or faulty driving.
