TROTTING.

OTAHTJHU CLUB'S MEETING.

FIRST DAY'S EVENTS.

GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED. The OtahnEn Trotting Club's Summer Meeting opens to-day, and, with a capital list of acceptances for the eight events forming the programme, it should only require fine weather to ensure a larjjQ concourse of racegoers assembling at Alexandra Park in order to assist at the gathering.

REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. BY PICADOR. The class engaged in the Trial Handicap is not good t.nii figures az*o decidedly m favour of White Satin, who recently won in 3m 35 3-5s at Forbury Park and is here handicapped on 5n 40a. The three-year-old ally is regarded as one of the best trotter 3 at her age that has yet raced in the Dominion, and. as she is more likely to improve than most of her opponents, her prospects appear particularly bright. There is nothing among tho limit division that looks like being especially dangerous, and the chief danger may come from horses like Rangitero, Audo Spray, Paradigm. Lord Haldane and Togo's Promise. The favourites are likely to be W bite Satin, iiangitero and Audo Spray.

Banners will be numerous in the Tamaki Handicap and luck in running will bo an important factor. Some Dillon and Pavlova are recent winners on tho limit and of these tho preference ia for Pavlova, who ia the more solid of the two. Mountain Princess, on 12 yards, is a possibility, but she may have trouble to keep ahead of Haroto and Arachne, both on 24 yards. Arachno ia one of tho speediest pacera in the race and will only have to begin correctly to give considerable trouble. First Flight ia another with a good chance and others who may have to be taken into calculations «jro Dad's Hope. Haerenga Pai. Great Ballin and Nulla Dillon. In a good betting race tho prime fancies may be Arachne, Pavlova and Haroto.

Thu Papal; ura Handicap has attracted a very useful field and should provido a good contest. Limosn, Explosion, Cornelian and Warspito are limit horse 3 with chances, and Tony Victor would be another one likely to show up if ho would reproduce hi 3 best. Hal Chimes, on 12 yards, and Sir Author, on 21 yards, are two that may be very difficult to beat, while Laplander, Mountain Dell. Brutus, Reremai and Stanmuor are others that may help to make it very interesting. Tho backmarkera, Evelyn Locanda and Gold Dial, are also entitled to some respect and altogether it is a very open race. The public may go for Sir Author. Laplander and Mountain Dell. Twelve good-class pacera figure on tho card for the Otahuhu Trotting Cup and they will he expected to staga a spectacular contest. The four limit horses should all make good showings, although the iourney is rather far for Talent, who will bo mora ar, homo over a shorter course. The pick of the four is Great Peter, who has notched three successive victories and stepped -tm 28 2-as at his last outing. Now he conies in on t'n 30s, and. (hough he will find the task of winning more difficult than ho did last start off 4m 35a, there is good reason to assess hia chanco very highly. Torpedo Huon and Native Prince are expected to go good races and they may prove the most difficult for Great Peter to beat, although Sunshower, whose latest form has been excellent, may also bo a source of danger. Nelson Taskcr, Kohara and Free Advice may do as well aa any of the others, although they are unlikely to have a great advantago over Tho Abbey if he leaves tho mark correctly. Backers will probably follow form and go for Great Peter, Sunshower and Torpedo Huon. Only eight are engaged in the President's Handicap 'and the tield is rather disappointing, although there will bo sufficient runners to enßuro a good raco. Gold Sovereign and Tradesman should register decent efforts off the limit, but thoy will have to go well to keep ahead of Writer, who is steadily on the improve and won iiko a good horse at Wellington lust week. Grout Change ia rather uncertain and does not appeal aa much as Mutu and Peter Me.Kinney, who are likely to ho right in the picture. The back-markers. \\ aikaha and Rose Bingen. are both good, and. though recent form says most for Rose Bingcn, Waikaha is tho one that may give most trouble. Tho favourites are likely to , be Writer, Waikaha and Poter McKmney, j

Another small field. i 3 carded for the Mount Albert Handicap. The class is not good and on recent form Akenehi and Linnett the Great look the most likely, with Anselina and Peterson probably the best of the others. Backers may show a preference for Akenehi and Linnett the Great. The Moss Davis Handicap bears an open aspect, as there are so many that can run a fast mile and a-quarter. Luck in the early stages will be an important factor, but some that may show up are Florent, Gold Dial, Rockburn, Stanmoor. Joy Bird, Sunshower, Free Advice. Talept and Carmel. It should be a splendid betting race and the main fancies may include Sunshower. Carmel and Free Advice.

The Railway Handicap is another open race and the wagering is likely to be spirited. Ifingsclere, Benefice, Dad's Hope, Dick Dillon, Te Wahia and Master Huia have all shown some form this season with the weight on top, while Trustworthy. Vanity Boy. Laplander and Darknite can all go a good mile in saddle. It ia a raco full of possibilities and the public, may support Te "Wahia, Laplander and Benefice. SECOND DAY'S EVENTS. The second day's racing in connection with the Otahuhu Trotting Club's Summer Meeting is now fixed for Wednesday next, when the following events will compriser the programme:—Suburban Handicap (two miles), Newmarket Handicap (IV miles), Sylvia Park Handicap (one mile). Dominion Handicap (two miles). Alexandra Handicap (two miles), Richmond Handicap (two miles), Coates Handicap 'li miles), and Farewell Handicap (li miles). Absolum. at the club's office, O'Conneil Street. THAMES TROTTING CLUB. The Thames Trotting Club's annual race meeting ia to be held on Saturday, March 28. Nominations for all eventa close on Friday.
