THE WATERFRONT ROAD.

Sir, —There is evidence of shocking indifference toward the interests of tho general body of ratepayers in the City Council's proposal to spend £IOOO or more to raise one of the bridges on the waterfront road for the benefit of a comparatively few ratepayers, who are yachtsmen or the owners of small craft. Tho whole subject was maturely considered two years ago, when tho project of tho waterfront road was discussed. Now, to suit a fow pleasure-lovers, the symmetry of tho road is to be destroyed by tho raising of one of tho bridges at the cost of something like £ISOO, of which tho general Government is willing to contribute £SOO to be charged to the Orakei Estate, tho City Council apparently to contribute the balance, to be charged to the city. And there was only one dissentient voice at the last council meeting ! Long-suffering Ratepayer.
