STATES AT VARIANCE.

NEPAL' AND TIBET.

LHASA LEGATION INCIDENT*

(Received February 16. 11.25 p.m.)

DELHI, Feb. 15. Strained, relations recently existed between the State of Nepal and Tibet as a sequel' to the death of Gyalpo, who was a Nepalese subject, in a Tibetian prison. It is now stated that Gyalpo infringed Tibetah law and was imprisoned for 12 months.

He eventually escaped and fled to the Nepalese Legation in Lhasa, into which a party of Tibetan police forcibly entered and rearrested Gyalpo, who later died. The Prime- Minister of Nepal, Sir Chandra Jang, demanded an apology, which it is believed has been despatched to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
