ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH.

CALL Tl} REV. I. E. BERTRAM.

A call to St. Andrew's, the mother Presbyteriun Church of Auckland, is being made to the Rev. I. E. Bertram* who.has been acting as supply at, the. church for the past 12 months. The call wa.s yesterday made available for the signatures o£ members of the congregation^.

Mr. Bertram is a New Z<;alander by birth, and received his theological training at Otago University/wEerer he held' the Someirville Scholarship.' He graduated B.A. in 1897, ind-M.Ai in 1899 with honours in philosophy. His first charge was Hawera, and .ironr'there he went to Devonport, Auckland. While at Devonport, he obtained leave of absence to take a post-graduate course in philosophy- and mental science at Glasgow University. In. 1914 Mr. Bertram accepted .a _ call to Prahran Church, Melbourne. Seven year 3 later, he \ras called to St.: Peter's North Sydney, and remained there "until 1924. when he i.'eturned to New Zealand to be minister of St. Paul's, Oamaru. In 1928 he came to Auckland and acted as supply for the l?ev. D. C. Herron, M.A., of St. David's, in I;he latter's absence abroad. ' : -

While at Oamai.-Uy Mr. Bertram was seriously liurt in a motor-car accident,, aiid his health being aSected. he resigned from St. Paul's. His medical advisers recommenced him not to take a 'fully-. sanctioned; charge For at least two years; * Mr. Bertram, during this off-season, took up the study of laiv, and for the past 13 months lie has teen . supplying at St, Andrew's, The esteem in which he is ' held by the congregation was manifested at the congregational meeting last Tuesday evening, when it was unanimously decided to call him to the old mother church jpi Presbyterianism in Auckland/ Th.e last minister of St. Andrew's was the Rev. J. Lamb Harvey, who resigned in Juno, ,1928, and. who is now stationed at Dufftown, Banffshire, Scotland.
