COLLISION AT CROSSING.
DRIVER ESCAPES LIGHTLY.
[by telegraph.—own' correspondent.] HAMILTON, Monday. A narrow escape from serious injury was experienced at noon to-day by Mr. Robert Shrimpton Higginson, carpenter, of Hamilton. Mr. Higginson was driving a light five-seater car in Victoria Street, Hamilton, in the direction of ,Whitiora when he collided with: a mixed train from Rotorua, which was passing over the street as it slowed down on entering the Hamilton station.
Mi*. Higginson did not at first see the train, his attention being distracted by ; a cyclist. When he did, he swerved sharply to the left, but the train hit his car, smashing one wheel and the mudguard and hood. Mr. Higginson, who was the only occupant of the car, escaped I'ith a scratch on one finger. .
