PRESENT DAY NAMES.
OLD FASHIONED FAVOURITES.
Just now thero is a run at smart christenings in London, on simple, old-fashioned names.
first favourite, then come Ann, Mary, Joan, Frances, Joyce. Flower-names have quite gone out; parents seem to have at last recognised the absurditios of Lilies with raven locks. Roses who are brown girls, and Olives who certainly do not look as if they grew by moonlight. Jewel-names have also been out of fashion for a long time, and it would be very difficult now to make a little collection of bright young Rubies, Emeralds, Beryls and Pearls.
