SCHOOLBOY KILLED.

STRUCK BY A MOTOR-BUS.

LAD RIDING ON BICYCLE.

great south road accident.

Fatal injuries were sustained by a schoolboy, William Munro Carlaw, aged 9, as a result of his bicycle being struck by a Passenger Transport Company's motor-bus on the Great South Road, near Green Lano corner, yesterday morning.

The accident occurred shortly before 9 o'clock, about 50yds. on the city side of the corner. The boy was turning to cross the road and'enter the residence of his father, Mr. W. 0. Carlaw, at 204, Great South Road, when his machine was struck from the rear. The bus, which was driven by Mr. H. Lane, stopped at the corner to allow several passengers to alight. It was moving again when the driver saw the boy turn his vehicle to cross the road. He swerved outward sharply, but could not avoid a collision.

The boy, who was rendered unconscious, was carried to the residence of Dr. J. A. W. Roberton. Examination failed to reveal the exact nature of his injuries, but, as he was suffering severely from shock and concussion', Dr. Roberton ordered his immediate removal to the Auckland Hospital. The boy failed to regain consciousness, and death occurred before the ambulance reached the hospital.

An inquest will be opened this morning

The father cf deceased, Mr. W. O. Carlaw, is secretary of the Now Zealand Rugby League.
