JUBILEE OF CONVENT.

CELEBRATIONS AT TIMARU.

Services celebrating tho golden jubilee of the Sacred Heart Convent were held today, and were attended by leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand. There were several present who attended tho ceremony of laying the foundationstone 50 years ago, notably Archbishop Redwood, who performed tho ceremony. A striking tribute was paid to tho great work tho nuns had accomplished. At tho opening of tho convent tliero were 50 pupils, but to-day the roll number was 230.

Pontifical High Mass was celebrated in the morning, Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, being tlio celebrant. A stirring address was delivered by Archbishop Hodwood. In Mio afternoon an open-air function was held by the Convent Old Girls' Association, at which commemorative medals were presented to ladies who were present at the laying of the foundationstone.

In the evening the Sacred Heart, School Old Girls and St. Anne's Guild made presentations to the nuns in recognition of tire work being done at the convent.
