CIVIC RECEPTION HELD.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TIMARU, Wednesday.

A civic reception was to-day accorded to Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington, Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin and tho other Roman Catholic clergy who are visiting Timaru in connection with the golden jubilee of the Convent of tho Sacred Heart. There was a very largo attendance of tho public.

The occasion was the more interesting in that Archbishop Redwood, who is the senior Roman Catholic bishop of the world, laid the foundation stone of the convent on February 1, 1880. In the evening the parishioners presented Father Peoples with an illuminated address on the occasion of the silver jubilee of his ordination to tho priesthood.
