THE TRANSPORT BOARD.
Sir, —It is significant that sd .milch of the criticism of the Transport Board has been launched by the suburban local, bodies. .They apparently wish to get control of the position to suit themselves and overlook the fact that the city is greater and more populous than all of them put together. If they are so anxious why do they not join the city and bring about a greater Auckland? The latest to criticise is the Newmarket Borough Council and the Mayor of that pocket-borough apparently has not benefited from the rebuke he receiyed whea he spoke out oi: his turn at the recent meeting of postal officers. The suburbs of Auckland were developed tramways, and let them be thankful there are men on this Transport Board with sufficient backbone to see that. the permanent system of transport shall be extended. Digoeb.
Sir,—l wonder how many of those who are persistently complaining about the Transport Board are genuinely dissatisfied and really consider that ihe board is, to quote a few of. the' discrediting phrases, "making a hash of things," and "dodging the issue," eta As has been pointed out the board is not being given a fair chance, and apparently those who are so determinedly and so unjustifiably expressing their dissatisfaction are . comprised of a few inconsiderate individuals harassing the board at every turn.without stopping to justify their complaints. I would advise these people to ask themselves the following questions before becoming so harshly critical:—(l) Has the board really brought about this "detrimental" state of affairs through incompetence, or has it done its best under the circumstances; 2. Could I or anyone else have done better? (3) Am I going to tell the world that I am dissatisfied, or am I going to wait aud give the board a chance to function before I air my particular grievances in wholesale criticism ? We must give the board a chance and not reject them without a fair trial. Nolly.
